Weekend Rewind

Happy Monday, welcome to another week of Summer!

We had a great weekend!  Friday night we went to the big city for yet another load of lumber for the basement.  Because it was a Friday night we decided to go to one of the best pizza places in the city called 'Wig and Pen'.  Their specialties are their Chicago Style pizza and my favorite, The Flying Tomato pizza.  They slice tomatoes up thin and lay about 5 over the top of your pizza before it bakes.  Sooooo yummy!  They also have what I think is THE BEST bruschetta around!  They serve it with slices of fresh mozzarella, which I could eat a whole hunk of all by itself.  Andy doesn't like it so I get to eat all of his, too! Yum!!!

Saturday was a busy day.  We started it off with our town's Fun Day's parade.  We sat with friends in front of their business this year, which is at the very end of the parade route.  There were a ton of kids all sitting together at this business!  When the parade finally made it down to us they were ready for catching candy!

We live in a very rural community so of course there had to be tractors in our parade!

This is one of the coolest looking tractors I've ever seen - Go Hawks!

Isn't this little car and girl super cute?!?

As you can probably tell in the the pictures, it was rainy that morning.  We watched about 3 minutes of the parade before the rain started.  It was a slow, steady rain so sitting under the umbrella kept us dry. The kids were fine getting wet as long as they were still getting candy, ha ha!

I'm a sucker for a cool car!

As a kid Bert and Ernie were by far my favorite characters on Sesame Street.  You can imagine how excited I was to see them here at our parade!!! :)

The parade lasted about 45 minutes, and at the end of that time I was so ready to get out of the rain!  We loaded up the car and headed for home. Tate fell asleep about a block into our ride home - should have given me a clue he wasn't feeling good.  When we got home and I carried him into the house I realized how warm he felt.  I got him some Motrin and laid him down for what I hoped was a quick, refreshing nap before we had to leave for our afternoon of family fun.  10 minutes before we were to leave I snuck into his room and took him temperature in his ear.  103.2!!!  That was an hour after giving him the Motrin!  Needless to say Andy and Tate stayed home while Bren, Aiden and I went to our fun party.  He slept for over 4 hours!  When he woke up Andy gave him more medicine and took his temp - it was down to 99 degrees.  Better but I guess he still didn't feel like himself.  When we got home at 8:30 he was finally being Tate again.  Darn molars!

Meanwhile, Aiden, Brennan and I went to the June Jump Around with my mom's side of the family.  We started at my cousin Meliah's house.  Such a neat old farmhouse!  She did a great job decorating it!  And the spread of food she had!!  Pineapple and blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, a veggie platter with ranch dip, Roasted Red Pepper Hummus, and a spinach artichoke dip with tortilla chips.  Yum yum!  After about 1 1/2 hours it was time to head farther north to her brother's house, my cousin Ryan.

He has done a ton of remodeling and updating to his house.  Since he bought the house he's gotten married and she has an awesome decorating style!  And to eat, Mexican food!  A super amazing mexican dip with chips and a nacho bar - taco meat, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, black olive, lettuce, jalepenos, salsa, sour cream, yum!  And sopapilla for dessert!!

On to our last stop, my cousin Josh's new house.  They moved last year so none of us had seen their house yet.  Such a pretty home!  They also went the Mexican food route - walking tacos, chips and salsa and they had a yummy spinach and bacon dip.  Believe me, I didn't leave hungry!  Once we all had our fill the gals went to the basement for a baby shower for Ryan and his wife, Ashley.  Aren't they cute?!?

It was such a great afternoon and evening with family!

Sunday was a lazy day of sorts.  I finally was able to get the lawn mowed in between rains.  I almost could have baled it after I was done, it was long in spots!  Ended up having to rake those areas, not fun!

Andy and the big boys were gone for a few hours so Tatie Tot and I ran to the store for toilet paper, diapers and Tylenol for his teeth. While there I was suckered into buying a Glade candle.  After getting home and burning it I now remember why I never buy Glade candles -- they stink! They never smell like they do when you aren't burning it.  When you do burn it they always smell like a cleaner of some sort, which doesn't do it for me.  Ick.  I ended up loading my Scenty burners with Peony Petals and blasting that icky smell out of the house.

After getting Tate settled in for his afternoon nap I went outside and trimmed back my irises since they are done blooming for the year.  That always makes the garden look so different after it's done.

To finish off our day we had Brennan's second Pee Wee baseball game.  He has so darn much fun out there, I love watching him on the field!

Another busy but fun weekend in the books.  I'm ready to tackle another week!

What was the highlight of your weekend?

  1. I miss town festivals so much! From the parades to the street dances to all the other exciting things that only small towns can offer. We went to a street fair here, and it was like a mini version of a state fair. While fun, it just wasn't the same as what I grew up with.
Poor Tate!! I sure do hope those stinking molars come through soon so he can get back to feeling better.
The June Jump Around sounds like so much fun!! I just love that your family does that. What a neat way to make some fun memories!
